If you're planning a stay in Girona Province in 2027, one thing is worth knowing before you book: this part of inland Catalonia doesn't slow down evenly through the year. It moves in bursts, built around local public holidays, long weekends the Catalans call ponts ("bridges"), and a handful of international events that quietly fill up our villages months in advance. Get the calendar right, and you can either ride the wave — booking early for a lively long weekend — or dodge it entirely for a quiet week in the Banyoles countryside, La Garrotxa's volcanic hills, or the Alt Empordà plain.
This guide walks through the whole of 2027, season by season, using the confirmed Spanish, Catalan and French holiday calendars, plus the two sporting events that consistently reshape demand around Girona city: The Traka and Sea Otter Europe.

What is a “pont” (and why it matters for your booking)
In Catalonia and Spain, when a public holiday falls close to a weekend, it's extremely common for people to “bridge” (fer pont) the in-between working day and take four days off instead of one. The result is a predictable rhythm of long weekends throughout the year, each one pulling in domestic Spanish and Catalan travellers, plus French guests when a French holiday lines up too.
For a vacation rental guest, this matters in two ways:
Demand and pricing rise sharply around these bridge weekends, and country houses in Banyoles, La Garrotxa and Alt Empordà are booked out weeks or months ahead.
Minimum-stay requirements are common on pont weekends (typically 3–6 nights), because the whole block — not just the public holiday itself — is in demand.
Knowing the ponts ahead of time means you can either join the celebration (Sant Joan's bonfires, for instance, are worth planning a trip around) or pick the quieter week either side of it.
Spring 2027: Easter, May bridges and The Traka
Spring is when Girona Province properly wakes up.
Setmana Santa (Easter Week): Good Friday falls on 26 March 2027, with Easter Monday on 29 March. Expect a five-day pont from around 25–29 March, one of the first big travel weeks of the year for both Spanish and French guests.
1 May bridge: Spain and France both mark Labour Day on 1 May (a Saturday in 2027), which typically extends into a three-night weekend from Friday 30 April.
The Traka 2027: this is the one cyclists already have circled — the Traka gravel race takes over Girona city from 30 April to 2 May 2027, overlapping directly with the May bridge. Riders and support crews book out Girona-area accommodation for the entire block, so if you're coming for the race (or just want to watch), plan for at least a 3–4 night stay and book as early as possible.
French May bridges: France adds two more short holidays in quick succession — Ascension (6 May) and Victoire 1945 (8 May), close enough together that many French guests take the whole 5–9 May week off, followed by Whit Monday on 17 May.
Sant Joan (24 June): the Catalan midsummer festival, famous for bonfires and fireworks on the eve of 23 June, anchors a four-night bridge into the last weekend of June and marks the unofficial start of the summer season.
Summer 2027: Sant Joan through the high season
Once Sant Joan passes, Girona Province moves into its main summer season, which behaves less like a string of bridges and more like one long high-demand stretch:
Early-to-mid July: a “media” (medium) season with 5-night minimum stays, gradually filling up.
Mid-to-late July: the season steps up to “alta” (high), with 7-night minimum stays typical.
1–14 August: the absolute peak of the year, when Catalan and Spanish families take their traditional August holiday. Minimum stays of 10 nights are common and availability is tightest of the whole year — book this window as far ahead as you can.
15–21 August: still high season (7-night minimums), before demand gradually eases from around 22 August onward.
France's 14 July (Fête Nationale) sits inside this stretch too, adding a short burst of French demand in mid-July on top of the general summer peak.

Autumn 2027: La Diada, Sea Otter Europe and La Mercè
Autumn brings a second, gentler run of bridges plus one major event for cyclists:
La Diada (11 September), Catalonia's national day, falls on a Saturday in 2027 and extends into a three-night weekend from Friday 10 September.
Sea Otter Europe: Girona's long-running cycling festival has taken place on the third weekend of September for several years running. Based on that pattern, we'd estimate the 2027 edition falls around 17–19 September — but note that the organiser has not yet published the official date, so treat this as an early planning estimate rather than a confirmed booking date, and check seaottereurope.com nearer the time.
La Mercè (24 September), Barcelona's big city festival, mainly affects Barcelona itself but does add a smaller ripple of demand across Catalonia around 23–27 September.
Festa Nacional d'Espanya (12 October) falls on a Tuesday in 2027, creating a four-night bridge from Friday 8 to Tuesday 12 October (with the Monday commonly bridged too).
Tots Sants / All Saints (1 November) falls on a Monday, giving a straightforward three-night weekend from Friday 29 October.
Winter 2027: bridges into December and the Christmas-New Year block
Winter in Girona Province is quieter, punctuated by two clear high points:
Early December: Spain's Dia de la Constitució (6 December, a Monday) and the Immaculada (8 December, a Wednesday) fall close enough together in 2027 to form one long five-night bridge from Friday 3 to Wednesday 8 December — one of the strongest pont weekends of the second half of the year.
Christmas and New Year: Nadal (Christmas Day, 25 December, a Saturday) opens a five-night block from 23 to 27 December, which flows almost directly into the Cap d'Any i Reis (New Year and Three Kings) bridge running from 31 December 2027 through to Epiphany on 6 January 2028. Together these form the single longest and most in-demand travel block of the Catalan winter — families gather for both Christmas and Reis, so early booking really matters here.

When to come for a quieter countryside stay
If your priority is a peaceful stay rather than a festive one, the calendar above doubles as a map of when not to expect a crowd. The quietest, most flexible windows in 2027 are early-to-mid January (after 6 January), most of February aside from the mid-February Super Cup MTB Banyoles weekend, and the two November–December stretches outside the early-December bridge. These “temporada baixa” weeks come with lower minimum-stay requirements and give you the countryside — the lakes around Banyoles, the volcanic trails of La Garrotxa, the villages of Alt Empordà — largely to yourselves.
